FUNDING has been secured to improve cycle links in Buckley town centre, but residents are being urged to have their say.

Last year, Flintshire County Council and Buckley Town Council formed a working group to explore possible highway improvements in the town.

The group has successfully secured funding from Welsh Government to expand the current Active Travel infrastructure within Buckley, by improving the cycle links from and to schools within the town.

A spokesman said: “In recent years, there has been concerns raised regarding walking and cycling links to the schools within the town. The proposals will provide a safer and more attractive environment for people to do this.”

The proposed safety measures and improvements include:

• 3 metred shared use path adjacent to the Common - connecting the existing active travel infrastructure on Knowle Lane

• 4 way traffic signals with Toucan crossing facility – replacing existing pedestrian crossing signals near the Elfed High School

• 3 metred shared use path along the B5127 Mill Lane to link with Footpath 22

• Widening of the B5127 Mill Lane to allow for designated residents parking provision on Mill Lane and the free flow movement of traffic together with 3 metred shared use path

• Bus stop improvements on the B5127 Mill Lane

• Widening of the Footpath adjacent to the Elfed High School to allow for a shared use path

• Provision of off-road cycle link to Southdown Primary School with a Parallel crossing facility on Elfed Drive

• Upgrade of existing traffic signals on A549 Argoed Road and Brunswick Road (High Street section to a Toucan crossing

• On-road cycling facility along Brunswick Road (High Street section) – including 20mph speed limit

• 3 metred shared use path from Westwood Primary School to the town centre

A consultation has now been launched and is open until midnight of December 14.
