CHESTER Market has reopened its doors today (November 19) after being forced to close following a fire in the multi-storey car park.

Firefighters tackled the blaze inside the market car park in Princess Street at 5.38am yesterday.

It involved an electrical substation which was alight when the crew arrived at the scene.

As a result of the fire, both the car park and Chester Market had to shut so repair work could be carried out.

Cheshire West and Chester Council confirmed this morning that the market has reopened along with the green level of the car park.

The authority added that only cash payments are in operation for the time being.
