A NURSE charged with eight counts of murder following a long-running investigation into baby deaths at the Countess of Chester Hospital will appear in court this morning (November 12).

Lucy Letby, 30, who was arrested for a third time on Tuesday as part of the probe which began in 2017, also faces 10 charges of attempted murder.

The 18 charges in total relate to the period of June 2015 to June 2016.

Letby, of Arran Avenue, Hereford, will appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court.

Cheshire Police said the parents of all the babies involved had been kept fully updated on developments and were being supported by officers.

A force spokesman said: "The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised Cheshire Police to charge a healthcare professional with murder in connection with an ongoing investigation into a number of baby deaths at the Countess of Chester Hospital."
