It kicked off with two damp squibs but Bonfire Night has exploded into life for Wrexham over the years when they've been involved in some real crackers.

Nil-nil draws against North Ferriby and York City probably best sum up Wrexham's non-eventful non-league era but the rest of the Reds games on November 5 were hot stuff.

In 1986, they drew 2-2 at home to Real Zaragoza in the second round of the European Cup Winners Cup. The Spaniards went through on away goals after Dixie McNeil's side has drawn the first leg 0-0.

A 1-1 draw in Stal Rzeszow 11 years earlier did secure Wrexham a place in the European Cup Winners' Cup quarter-finals, Mel Sutton scoring in Poland to secure a 3-1 aggregate win.

Wrexham's first ever game on this day was a 6-1 home win against Chesterfield in 1921 and they followed it up with a 5-1 victory against Ashington six years later.

They've beaten York City 3-2 (1932) and lost 3-2 to Mansfield (1982) and been on the wrong end and the right end of two 4-1 results.

In 1991, Steve Watkin scored the Reds consolation goal at Scarborough but three years later against Wycombe, a Gary Bennett hat-trick and one from Karl Connolly rocketed Brian Flynn's Reds up the league table.

The big goals show was at Stockport in 2003 where County just outscored Wrexham in a nine-goal Football League Trophy thriller.

Mark Jones, Shaun Holmes, Hector Sam and Chris Armstrong were the Reds scorers with Stockport winning on the old goal-den goal rule six minutes into extra time.
