NETWORK Rail is planning the ‘reconstruction’ of a railway bridge near to Warrington town centre.
An application for planning permission has been submitted to Warrington Borough Council for works to the bridge over the pathway linking Rolleston Street in Bewsey to Midland Way and Legh Street for pedestrians.
‘Essential upgrades’ are needed to the structure, and are expected to be carried out next year.
A Network Rail spokesman said: “We are currently in the early design phase of an essential upgrade to Rolleston Street railway bridge in Warrington as part of the Great North Rail Project.
“Subject to planning permission, we are aiming to carry out the work in 2021.
“As with any work to make our bridges more reliable for passengers and road users, we will engage with the local community and council when the designs are finalised and well ahead of the project taking place.”
