SOLIHULL MOORS go into tomorrow's FA Cup tie against Wrexham in a rich vein of form.

Jimmy Shan's side haven't looked back since losing 1-0 at Woking on the opening day of the National League season.

Moors have won three league games in a row since that defeat, the first coming against tomorrow's fourth qualifying round opponents Wrexham.

Although the Reds dominated for large periods at Damson Park, Jimmy Ball scored the only goal of the game in the second half at Damson Park.

Joe Sbarra, Cameron Archer (2), Jamie Osborne and Callum Howe were on target as Moors thrashed newly promoted King's Lynn Town 5-0 in their next outing, and there was the same outcome in their third home game in a row on Saturday.

This time one goal from debutant striker Adam Rooney was enough to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Boreham Wood.

Moors had to play the majority of the game with 10 men after centre-back Darren Carter was sent off inside the opening 20 minutes.

However, Rooney's second half strike made it a hat-trick of wins to take Moors up to fifth in the table, three points behind leaders Stockport County with a game in hand.

A delighted Shan praised the bravery of his side after playing with a man less for so long.

"It's a fantastic result and testament to the character of the boys after going down to 10 men," said Shan.

"I can't take anything away from our lads. They've worked tirelessly hard in pre-season and it was probably fortunate having that game postponed in midweek.

"It probably did us a bit of a favour. I'd have hated to go into that game with 10 men for such a long period of time having playing 90 minutes on Tuesday night.

"We changed shape (after the red card) but we don't want to change the principles of play.

"The second half was totally different to that period we had when we played with 11 men. I think ironically when we had 10 men, we started to gain some control in the game and started to play some football.

"I'm ever such a critique. I look back and I'm frustrated in that opening 20 minutes as to why we didn't gain control. I think we need to be a bit more braver in possession and have a little bit more trust.

"When we went down to 10 men, we had that bravery and it almost kickstarted us to be a bit more like Solihull Moors."

Rooney signed for Solihull in March and finally made his long awaited debut against the Wood.

But the long delay due to the coronavirus pandemic and injury was worth it as he netted the only goal to continue Moors' impressive run of wins.

"We were disappointed to go down to 10 men early on," said Rooney. "You think it's going to be a tough day, but to get a win like that and a performance like that - the lads were brilliant.

"All of the lads put in a brilliant shift. We knew we were going to have a tough game today regardless of whether we had 10 or 11 men.

"Once we went down (to 10) we got ourselves together, got a good shape and we dealt with all the long balls.

"Obviously there were times where we had to go long, when we were under a bit of pressure. But we tried to play and we actually seemed to settle down a bit once we went down to 10 men - we were a bit erratic early on and didn't really put our foot on the ball."

On his goal, Rooney added: "It was nice to see it go in. It's always nice to get a goal, especially on your debut and when you're down to 10 men."
