CONNAH'S Quay Nomads FC has been cleared of any wrongdoing during the club's UEFA Europa League second qualifying round game last month.

After the club's last-gasp 1-0 defeat against Georgian side Dinamo Tbilisi, manager Andy Morrison said he had to "turn a blind eye" to players feeling unwell - after three Nomads players had tested positive for Covid-19 just a day earlier.

At the time, the club said that "a number of players had suffered from isolated pre-match upset stomach and headaches" likely down to "nerves due to being thrust into the starting lineup of such a high profile fixture".

However, Morrison's comments led to a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary investigation into the incident - but UEFA has now confirmed that the club will face no further action following the recent Ethics and Disciplinary inspection.

The recommendation of the UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector (EDI) stated: "From the responses rendered by the club and their team's doctor as well as the evidences available to the investigation, the EDI observes that in principle, the provisions of the UEFA Return to Play protocol were respected by the club."

The club says the quote from Andy Morrison was "taken thoroughly out of context", and that any insinuation that Connah's Quay Nomads had ignored players being unwell with symptoms of Covid-19 and that the club had failed to follow the UEFA Return to Play protocol is "categorically untrue".
