SHAUN PEARSON is not alarmed by Wrexham's early season form and recalls how the Reds were slow starters when he first arrived at The Racecourse before challenging for promotion.

Dean Keates' side have won two of their opening five matches, losing the other three including back-to-back defeats against Maidenhead and Wealdstone who were both bottom of the National League at the start of play.

That is six points from a possible 15 - the same total from the first five outings in 2017-18 when new signing Pearson was a fresh face in the Reds' defence.

Wrexham emerged as title contenders and were among the leaders when Keates left to take charge of hometown club Walsall, although the Reds missed out on the play-offs following a poor run-in.

Pearson insists there is still plenty of time to turn things around and is looking for positive results from successive home games against Barnet and Sutton after Wrexham visit Solihull Moors in Saturday's FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie.

"The first season when the gaffer brought me in, we had exactly the same points after five games," said Pearson.

"We then won the next two, went on a good run and got ourselves in a good position. That is what we will be looking to do.

"We have got the FA Cup game first but looking at the league, we will be looking to win them two home games after that.

"If you get a couple of wins in a week then it changes the whole perspective of it.

"It is early days, it is tight and you have only got to look at the other results in the league.

"Stockport are doing what they are expected to do but most teams are taking points off each other.

"We lost to Maidenhead at home, which was an awful result on the night, and they went and won at Notts County as well so it just goes to show what a difficult league it is."
