Expectation and ambition can sometimes blind us from what is realistic.

An away draw on the international stage is always a good result, especially against a team who are going to do you no favours, like the Republic of Ireland. Has Euro 2016 made us sit up and expect to win these games?

Under Ryan Giggs, we have now gone on a run of nine competitive games without losing.

Ireland’s starting XI consisted of 10 Premier League players and the experienced James McClean of Stoke City.

Yes, most of those players are game stoppers, not exciting, creative players you would pay to watch. So it was no surprise that the game ended in a stalemate; a game you would have closed the curtains on at half time if they were playing in your back garden.

So the importance of the Bulgaria game has suddenly grown but it’s nothing that this young squad can’t take in their stride.

Every game they have together is valuable experience for the future and we will go to Sofia tonight still full of confidence.

And even without the suspended Kieffer Moore and Joe Morrell, and the injured Chris Mepham, we will still have more than enough to beat this Bulgarian team.

I would like Tyler Roberts, who made a big impression on me against England, to spear-head the attack, while I expect Dylan Levitt to come in alongside Matthew Smith, for Morrell.

Giggs will stick with Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu in defence, but could start Neco Williams on the right side of midfield, instead of Harry Wilson.

Neco can attack and defend in that right-wing role and will get into goalscoring positions, where Harry has failed to do in a number of games.

Harry needs to move away from Liverpool now, and like last season, put people on the edge of their seats like we know he is capable of.

It will be a confident 2-0 away win for me, with Tyler Roberts and Aaron Ramsey on the scoresheet.

Is it me or has everyone at Wrexham Football Club woken up?

Off the field, there is potential investment from two very wealthy Hollywood actors, Robert McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

So what drama we have ahead of us and it promises to be a thriller of a season with the prospect of a £2 million windfall, which is much needed in these trying times.

Let’s hope that they can end the script with a happy ending, with Wrexham being promoted after 13 years in the National League.

On the field, it’s been a mixed start to the season, but it seems as though the new boys are buying into Dean Keates’ ideas.

The squad still looks a bit light for me, but Dean definitely has a game plan.

The league begins to take shape after eight to 10 games, so let’s pick up as many points as we can while the new squad continues to gel together.

As we expected, the two JD Cymru Premier giants The New Saints and Connah’s Quay have started the season on fire while Bala Town will definitely be in the mix come the end of the season.

But I’m afraid to say that for everyone else, which clubs will be able to survive until the end of the season will be the question on their minds. The FAW will be helping clubs out financially over the coming weeks, but how long they can sustain it is a question I can’t answer at this time.

Cefn Druids had a great win at Caernarfon Town last weekend to kick start their season and gain some confidence which they hope will spark a good run. But I do still fear for them, and at this time, I can’t see two teams who are worse than them in this league.

Flint Town United’s honeymoon period has come to an abrupt end after their promotion. They have crashed to some heavy defeats recently and they will need to stop themselves getting into a position where every game is a fight against relegation. You do not want to be playing catch up this early, so Niall McGuinness’ men need some good results to help them get out of this rut.

The next two months will be a testing time for the Cymru Premier and only the bravest will survive. There will be support from the Government as well as the FAW, but every club will need strong characters to get them through to the other side.
