JAY HARRIS is “proud” to be handed the captain’s armband and he wants more wins during his spell as Reds skipper.

The 33-year-old midfielder had led the side out for the opening two matches of the National League season in the absence of Shaun Pearson.

Pearson has undergone foot injury which meant he missed Saturday's 2-1 home win against Boreham Wood and 1-0 defeat at Solihull Moors in midweek.

Harris will again lead the team out against Yeovil Town at Huish Park tomorrow when Wrexham will look to bounce back from that first loss of the campaign.

“Shaun went off injured in a game last season and I took the armband but this was the first time from the start,” said Harris, who returned to Wrexham for a second spell during the January transfer window.

“I was just happy to cap if off with a win against Boreham Wood.

“It is a great honour to be captain of this club where I have had some really good times. It is great to lead a side of this quality out and I am really proud of it.

“I am hoping I can keep the armband while Shaun is away and be successful.”

But supporters will be in no doubt that Harris will still be a leader on the pitch whether he dons the captain's armband.

“Regardless of whether I am captain or not, I will still be exactly the same,” added Harris.

“I will still lead by example, I will still bark orders and keep people in check.

“When Shaun comes back and takes the armband back off me, I will still be the same player.”
