THE work of a team manager at a store in Ellesmere Port has gained national recognition.

Mandy Byrne, who works at the Co-op in Overpool Road, has won store colleague of the year at the recent virtual Being Co-op event.

Lucy Crane, area manager, said: “Mandy’s also a Member Pioneer who’s making a visible difference in the local community.

“She is the first to help out with local coffee mornings, isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty litter picking and tidying a community garden, and she’s even set up a herb garden for the community to share and take items from.

“She helps the local schools set up projects for the children and she always makes time to visit the elderly, sometimes just for a brew and a natter.

“Mandy’s been with Co-op for 30 years, putting her heart and soul into everything she does to deliver exceptional service. A local celebrity thanks to numerous appearances in the local press, Mandy really brings the sparkle and magic of community to life.

“All the customers know her by name and she’s always on hand to personally help people complete their shopping. She’s an inspiration and a real asset to our society.”

Mandy has won experience vouchers and was invited to a virtual afternoon tea hosted by the Co-op’s chief executive Steve Murrells.
