Two new coronavirus deaths have been recorded in Wirral hospitals, NHS England has confirmed.

The fatalities occurred on September 13 and 16, taking the total number of patients who have died with coronavirus at Wirral University Teach Hospital to 241.

The covid deaths are the first to occur in a Wirral hospital since August 25, prior to which, the most recent fatality at the trust was recorded on July 7.

The news comes on the same day that the UK Government has announced that Wirral and the rest of Merseyside will be placed under local restrictions from Tuesday (September 22).

A further 14 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,719.

Patients were aged between 41 and 93 years old. All had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from 9 September to 17 September 2020, with the majority on or after 15 September.

Their families have been informed.
