A LEVEL students at The King’s School are celebrating after picking up some outstanding results and securing places at top universities.

Despite not being unable to formally take the exams, this impressive year group have done superbly well thanks to their dedication and hard work, two qualities which were consistently demonstrated throughout their time in the Sixth Form.

Headteacher George Hartley said: “All the leavers this year deserve immense praise and credit for the manner in which they have coped with the last few months and also now for having to deal with this unique results day.

“I am very proud of all the students for all they have achieved at King’s, both academically and in terms of their involvement and leadership in so many other activities; they are a brilliant, gregarious and positively spirited group of young men and women and I wish they all the very best for their highly promising futures.”

Chester and District Standard:

A total of 21 per cent of grades achieved were at A* and nearly 60% of all grades were at A*/A.

Thirty per cent of students achieved straight A*/A grades, with six subjects recording 100% A*/A grades.

More than 60 per cent of pupils celebrated two or more A*/A grades.

Head of Sixth Form Josh Carter said: "This lovely year group have been dealt a rotten hand and felt justifiably disappointed about losing their opportunity to prove themselves after 18 months of hard work and commitment to their academic development.

“However, there has been no bitterness but rather a real sense of camaraderie and purpose, witnessed through their desire to carry on working and engaging with university preparation work as well as undertaking their mock exams in the week prior to lockdown.

"This pandemic will certainly not define a first-class bunch of individuals who will go into their chosen university courses determined to prove their undoubted ability.”

Chester and District Standard:

Acknowledging the unique circumstances faced by this year’s cohort, Mr Hartley added: “Whilst the majority of students have been given the grades they hoped for, and nearly all who have applied will be heading off to their universities of choice, we will be working hard to support students with the appeals process should they wish to pursue this, particularly once we have greater clarity around the details of this.

“Having had a pretty tough time over recent months, they deserve our help to do as much as we reasonably can to get the grades they all deserve.”
