A MOTORWAY sliproad near Ellesmere Port has finally reopened, nearly 24 hours after a lorry driver was injured in a collision.

The HGV driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries after the vehicle overturned on a sliproad from the M56 motorway to the M53.

The incident at junction 15 was reported to North West Motorway Police on Saturday evening (August 8) just before 6.50pm, and was on the M56 westbound carriageway, towards the M53 northbound (Ellesmere Port).

The sliproad was closed while police and highways team dealt with the overturned HGV, with traffic already on the sliproad being guided through by officers.

Police, fire, ambulance teams were all deployed to the scene.

Firefighters used specialist equipment to release the driver of the vehicle, he was passed to the care of paramedics.

The crews also dealt with a quantity of fuel which had leaked from the vehicle.

A diversion was put in place while the sliproad was closed for recovery to take place.

The road was reopened just after 6pm on Sunday, nearly 24 hours later.
