A WOMAN was taken to hospital following a crash on a section of the M56.
At 12.30pm yesterday (Thursday, July 30) firefighters were called to reports of a one-vehicle collision on the M56 westbound, between junctions 11 and 12.
On arrival smoke was coming from the saloon's car bonnet and the driver was being assessed by paramedics.
She was taken to hospital in an ambulance.
The first lane of the motorway was closed while emergency services worked at the scene.
A spokesman doe Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to remove the car's bonnet so that they could cool down the engine with a hose reel jet.
"They made the car safe and were in attendance for more than 45 minutes. Highways England also attended.
"The car was removed by a recovery truck."
