THE OCCUPANTS of a car were seriously hurt after it left the M53 near Chester and crashed into a field.

Three fire crews were called out at about 7.40am today (Saturday, July 25) to help free one of the occupants

The crash happened at junction 12, near the junction with the A55 at Vicars Cross.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Fire crews were called to assist following a serious road traffic collision on the M53 motorway, near the junction with the A55 at Vicars Cross.

"A car had left the carriageway and entered a field up an embankment.

"The occupants of the vehicle were seriously injured, and paramedics required assistance from the fire service to bring one of them down the embankment to safety and to be transported to hospital.

"Once this had been done, the crew remained at the scene to make the vehicle safe."
