SEVERAL people have reportedly fallen ill after swimming in a potentially polluted stretch of the River Dee in Chester.
Public Health England North West has urged anyone who has been swimming around the Sandy Lane area of the river by Boughton and has developed diarrhoea, fever or abdominal pain within 10 days of swimming to contact their GP.
Anyone thinking of swimming in this section of water is now being urged not to at this time.
It follows ongoing work between Public Health England, the Environment Agency, Cheshire West and Chester Council and Welsh Water to manage potential for pollution from a privately owned pumping station near Chester.
Public Health England North West says the potential discharge of pollution would have gone into Caldy Brook, which then feeds into the River Dee around Sandy Lane.
