DEAN KEATES is ready to release Wrexham’s retained list as soon as he gets the green light.

While the entire Reds playing squad and staff remain on furlough there will be no announcement regarding those that Keates is keen to keep at The Racecourse next season.

But boss Keates is making plans for the future, saying: “It’s all about finding out when things can be done.

“I know within myself, in my mind, what I want to do.

“With the furlough scheme it’s about waiting, but I know that decisions need to be made.

“As soon as I’m told what’s happening - and that is likely to be when the club find out more about potential start dates - we will be able to move forward.”

Wrexham have earned praise for their approach during the coronavirus crisis, while rival clubs have announced their retained lists.

Only six players, Rob Lainton, pictured, Shaun Pearson, Jay Harris, Dan Jarvis, Luke Young and Devonte Redmond, are in contract at Wrexham for the 2020/21 National League season.

Keates continued: “I am full of empathy towards the players, who I am still having frequent conversations with.

“The players know that I’m here for them and I have had conversations with players when they’ve needed to, or wanted to, speak to me about things. We are all in it together.”
