THE Countess of Chester Hospital Trust has recorded two additional coronavirus deaths in the latest 24-hour reporting period, according to NHS England data.

Figures released this afternoon (June 23) show that, as of 5pm yesterday, the total number of deaths registered by the trust – which covers both the Chester and Ellesmere Port hospital sites – had risen to 197.

The data also shows that both patients sadly died on Friday, June 19.

Warrington and Halton was the only trust in Cheshire not to record additional deaths of patients testing positive for the virus in the latest 24-hour period.

The county hospital death toll now stands at 665, with the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (205) recording the most, followed by the Countess trust (197), East Cheshire NHS Trust (132) and Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (131).

Across England, a further 46 people – up from 20 yesterday – who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 28,384.

Patients were aged between 51 and 97 years-old. Two patients, aged 84 and 87, had no known underlying health conditions.

Today, 13 deaths are reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.
