A SALTNEY woman has spoken of her shock after the front of her home was destroyed following a collision.

It was reported previously how a parked car was pushed into the wall of a house by the impact of a crash involving two vehicles in Boundary Lane.

Firefighters were called out to the collision at about 3.20am on Sunday.

Amy-Leigh Scott, 28, said she and her partner had been visiting friends and were on the way home when they received a call about the incident.

“Our neighbour said a car had gone through the front of our house,” she said.

Chester and District Standard:

“We were only a few minutes away and when we got there we could just see the flashing lights of the police and fire brigade.”

Miss Scott said she and her 36-year-old partner, a senior care assistant at a nursing home, had only moved into the property about two months ago and due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic they have not yet had chance to take out home insurance.

“Someone has been out and added supports but the whole front of the house is now boarded up,” the JD Sports worker said.

“We’ve got some accommodation now through a neighbour who has been supporting and advising us.

Chester and District Standard:

“We’ve also managed to get in touch with Cheshire West and Chester Council - they are basically sorting us emergency accommodation.”

A petition launched by Amy Holbrook - addressed to both Flintshire and Cheshire West and Chester Councils - is calling on the authorities to make the road safer.

It reads: “The residents of Boundary Lane would like speed reducing technology added to Boundary Lane.

Chester and District Standard:

“Over recent years residents have experienced several major accidents and many minor incidents.

“The most recent has written off several cars and major structural damage to a house.”

So far more than 320 people have signed the petition.

A fundraising page has also been set up by a neighbour to help the couple redecorate their lounge once they are able to move back in.

It has so far raised more than £200 of its £500 target.

Resident Chanel Scholan, 27, said: “We woke at 3.15am to a loud bang and car alarms.

“[It is a] familiar sound, as it’s happened several times over the six years we have lived here.

“I called the emergency services whilst [I] made my way out to the scene.

“With help from neighbours who were already on the street, [I] was able to confirm no injuries.

Chester and District Standard:

“The occupants were not home at the time of the incident. Neighbours all discussed how fed up and angry we are that this keeps happening with no commitment from either councils who share ownership of Boundary Lane.

“We have set up a petition to introduce speed enforcement and a GoFundMe to help the neighbours - who have not been in the property even two months - rebuild their lounge.”

Speaking of the fundraising page, Miss Scott said: “It is a lovely thought and we can’t thank everyone on the street enough.

“They have all been so lovely.”

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Shortly after 3am on Sunday, June 14 police were called to reports of a collision on Boundary Lane in Saltney.

“Officers attended the scene and found that a Volvo had collided with number of parked cars before colliding with a residential property.

“A 70-year-old local man was arrested in connection with the incident, he has since been released under investigation.”

A Cheshire West and Chester Council spokesman said: “Cheshire West and Chester Council is aware that in the early hours of Sunday morning a single vehicle collided with residents’ parked cars and caused extensive damage to a terrace property.

“The Council will liaise with Cheshire Police to understand the cause and consider road safety activity as may be appropriate. The Council arranged B&B accommodation for the residents.”
