CHESTER ZOO's social distancing measures on its site have been revealed for the first time.

These photos show some of the steps the hugely popular attraction – which we revealed yesterday is fighting for its future due to the Government-enforced closure – has taken to ensure people could visit safely.

Markings have been placed on the ground outside all the animal habitats to ensure people remain two metres apart at all times.

There are also one-metre standoff markings before window displays, to prevent visitors touching the windows.

Prior to the Government announcement on Sunday, the zoo had revealed what it had put in place ahead of its expected reopening.

Measures included self-scanning ticket lanes, multiple hand sanitisation points, a huge amount of signage and protective screens, significantly reduced visitor capacity, as well as the continued closure of indoor animal habitats, restaurants and cafes.

But the Government's latest coronavirus legislation, revealed without prior warning on Sunday evening, specifically prevents zoos from reopening.

This has led to a huge outcry from residents and politicians, with a petition calling on the PM to change his mind amassing thousands of signatures, while MPs have also called on the Government to reconsider the decision.
