WALKERS have been called on to have more consideration for others and take their litter home.

Nigel Lewis, administrator of the popular Wrexham Town and Wrexham County Matters Facebook groups, has told the Leader he is concerned after seeing numerous reports of littering across the county in recent weeks.

He explained: "I have seen pictures from all over - mainly at the parks and by rivers, where people have been congregating. "It's been food, bottles, cans - all kinds of things. "I really don't understand the mentality. If you can carry food to a place, why can't you just carry the litter home or to a bin?

"It spoils it for other people and it costs the council money to tidy it up."

Mr Lewis said areas he has seen reports of litter in include Alyn Waters, woodlands near Hope and Bellevue Park, among others.

He explained that as far as he is aware, the town centre has not seen a big increase so far but he has encouraged residents to be aware of the issue as more people leave the house due to changes to lockdown rules. "When I last walked through town it was spotless," he said. "Littering isn't just a problem in Wrexham, it's across the UK.

"It's probably only a small percentage of people who do it, and I'd encourage them to have more consideration for others.

"It's not hard to keep hold of your rubbish and put it in a bin or take it home.

"People have enough to do and think about at the moment without cleaning up after others - it's just not necessary."
