THE Countess of Chester Hospital Trust has recorded an additional two deaths of patients who tested positive for coronavirus, according to the latest NHS England data.

Figures released this afternoon (May 27) show that, as of 5pm yesterday (May 25), the trust – which covers both the Chester and Ellesmere Port hospital sites – has now registered a total of 169 deaths.

The data shows that the deaths occurred on May 22 and May 25.

The Cheshire Hospital death toll now stands at 567 – an increase of five compared to two yesterday.

The Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has recorded the most deaths with 170, followed by the Countess (169), Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (117) and East Cheshire NHS Trust (111).

Across England, a further 183 people – compared to 116 yesterday – who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 26,049.

Patients were aged between 43 and 101 years-old. Two of the 183 patients were aged 81 and 91, and had no known underlying health condition.

Today, 24 deaths are reported with no positive COVID-19 test result.
