A LORRY driver was stopped on the M56 near Frodsham after police spotted him reading from notes which he was holding in both hands while travelling at 50mph.

The incident was captured on a bike-mounted video camera on May 18 and has prompted a warning from Cheshire Constabulary about the potential "devastating consequences" of not driving with care and attention.

The driver of the HGV was issued with a Traffic Offence Report for the offence.

Cheshire Police said: "The driver of this HGV was seen reading from notes whilst holding them in both hands, resting his forearms on the steering wheel while travelling at 50mph on the M56, near Frodsham (this image taken from a bike-mounted video camera).

"The driver was stopped, and issued a Traffic Offence Report (TOR). If you are on an essential journey please drive with care, paying attention to your surroundings.

"The potential consequences of a collision could be devastating. It is not worth putting your, or other road users lives at risk. We do not discriminate against any users on our roads - but if we see driving like this, we will act."
