A PEDESTRIAN has died following a collision with a HGV on the M56, police have confirmed.

The incident happened at around 5.30am today (May 18) between Junction 14 Chester Services, near Helsby, and Junction 12 Runcorn.

In a statement Cheshire Constabulary said: "At around 5.30am on Monday 18 May police were called to reports of a collision on the M56 in Cheshire, between junctions 12 and 14.

"On arrival it was found that a HGV tanker, travelling in the direction of Runcorn, had been involved in a collision with a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The driver of the HGV was uninjured and liaised with officers at the scene."

North West Motorway Police have confirmed that 'investigation work and recovery has been completed on the M56 and the motorway has been fully re-opened'.
