A CHESTER entertainer who has performed at care homes, clubs and hotels has struck a chord with her community by singing to her neighbours.

Sharon Wallace explained that as all her gigs had been cancelled until the end of May due to coronavirus lockdown regulations, she decided to sing on her drive, "for her own sanity" and for neighbours to come out and have a sing along while observing social distancing.

She said: "This has happened for the last two weekends now and has been a great success.

"People who have been walking their dogs have stopped and joined in across the road. I have received cards thanking me, which is really lovely.

"I will be doing one more this Saturday, weather permitting, as it is my beautiful mum's birthday. We will decide then if to do anymore."

A video of Sharon entertaining neighbours on her street has been watched by thousands of people on Facebook.

While all the normal gigs have been cancelled, Sharon will be able to perform 1940s songs in a special event at a care home on May 8, the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

She explained: "I do miss my care homes and as I said, all of them have been cancelled at the moment.

"However, one of my regular local care homes has asked if I will appear in their garden on VE day.

"The residents will be inside, therefore, this is a wonderful idea to celebrate the day."

Sharon added if any other local care homes wished to provide a suitable, safe setting for her to sing songs in their garden, weather permitting, they can do so by emailing her at sharon@thesharonwallace.com or visit http://www.thesharonwallace.com/.

Sharon delighted millions of TV viewers on Christmas Day when she sang at the London Palladium as part of a surprise organised by Michael McIntyre's Big Christmas Show.

She is also founder of Handmade for Dementia, a volunteer project which has created about 10,000 hand-knitted 'cannula sleeves' for dementia patients to help ease stress and anxiety.

The group is currently focusing its attention on making headbands and face mask adaptors to make it easier for hardworking NHS staff and health workers to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) more comfortably.
