A CHESTER mortgage brokers has teamed up with the founder of Wok & Go to provide healthy hot meals to hardworking Countess of Chester Hospital staff during the coronavirus pandemic.

Katy Lehman, director at Nook Mortgages, has joined Desmond Pheby in a 'Feed Our Heroes' mission to get NHS staff fed throughout this crisis.

Katy explained: "We heard so much on the news about NHS staff struggling to get their weekly shop done and that the cafes were closed in hospitals, so at times, staff were struggling to get a hot meal after a 12-hour long shift.

"So we decided to try and raise funds to get food delivered to them every day for as long as possible, a way to say thank you, to show them we appreciate them and give them one less thing to worry about in their daily lives to not have to worry about taking food with them for their shift.

"The restaurant owner [Desmond] worked out how much it would cost them per meal and was able to commit to donating the time of his chefs to cook 50 meals a day – the donations would cover the cost of the food."

As a result, Chester noodle bar Wok & Go and pizzeria Dough Dough have been working hard – while following all the recommended Government hygiene advice – to create the much-needed hot meals.

Katy added: "So far we have been able to supply over three weeks of deliveries which started to be delivered to the Countess of Chester Hospital – we would love to try and keep this going for as long as possible during the pandemic.

"We need your help and donations so we can make this happen and try to provide more meals to even more staff at more times during the day and send them to wider hospitals.

"This is a not for profit in anyway and purely to deliver food to our heroic workers. Nobody is making any money out of this and any profits will go back into the NHS, so please give generously to help #feedourheroes.

"If you are a local business/restaurant/cafe/take away food outlet that wants to participate in the food preparation, then please get in touch."

An online funding page has been set up with further information and where people can donate. A £10,000 funding target has been set.
