A WOMAN who attended a University of Chester graduation ceremony where she lost a much-treasured gold ring given to her after her mum died is appealing for help in finding it.

Leah Cooper, 22, said the oval-shaped ring – which has a guardian angel engraved on it – "means the world to me" and made the loss of her mum "a little bit more bearable".

She lost the ring, which was originally owned by her grandmother and has been passed down two generations, during the graduation ceremony at Chester Cathedral on November 6 last year which she attended as a guest of her best friend.

Leah, who lives in Sheffield, said she understands it's been a while since the ceremony but has been "doing everything" to find it and has unfortunately drawn a blank.

She's now appealing to anyone who may have picked up the ring or handed it in somewhere to get in touch.

Leah said: "I think the ring came off in the cathedral during the ceremony. I was sat on my hands as it was cold and I think at some point I stood to clap and pulled the ring off.

"The ring is a flat gold oval with an engraving off a cherub/angel. On the inside it reads ‘may your guardian angel watch over you’.

"I'm still looking for the ring even after all this time because I just don't feel right without it. The ring is supposed to be good luck.

"Your guardian angel is supposed to watch over you when you wear it and without having my mum here wearing the ring made everything a little bit more bearable, like she was still able to help me from afar.

"My mum was given the ring when her mum passed almost 17 years ago. It's not worth very much to anyone else but it genuinely means the world to me.

"I'd hate to think that my mum kept it safe all that time and I managed to lose it forever within a couple months of having it."
