FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a glass container manufacturing plant near Chester after a fire broke out.

Three fire engines attended, one from Ellesmere Port, one from Powey Lane and one from Frodsham, at the facility in Ash Road, Elton, just after 3pm yesterday.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "On arrival the oil fire involving a machinery process had been extinguished by on-site personnel, but there was a small amount of debris still smouldering in a roof vent. The vent was accessed via a walkway.

"Two firefighters wearing height safety equipment removed the debris from the vent while colleagues stood by on the ground with a 45-metre hose reel in case any of the falling debris was on fire.

"None of the debris was on fire when it fell to the ground.

"An inspection of the vent and the building in general was then carried out to make sure that the site was safe. Firefighters were in attendance for more than two hours."
