KEY workers are being reminded that a large Chester city centre car park is currently free to use.

Chester Race Company, in collaboration with CH1ChesterBID, is reminding key workers travelling to and from Chester that parking is available at the Linenhall car park free of charge.

Charges at race company owned car park Linenhall were suspended at the beginning of the week in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The car park provides a good central parking location for city-centre key workers of open businesses listed under Government guidance.

Parking at Linenhall will remain free of charge until UK Government lifts the advice to members of the general public to remain at home and avoid travel unless otherwise deemed essential.

Chief executive Richard Thomas said: “There are many city-centre businesses providing an essential service during this unprecedented time.

"Linenhall car park will remain open free of charge to support these businesses and their key workers, by providing complimentary parking to those who need it.

"We are committed to supporting the local community, its businesses and people throughout this period of uncertainty.”

Carl Critchlow, manager of CH1ChesterBID, the Business Improvement District for Chester city centre, commented: “Even during these difficult times, we still have city centre businesses whose staff are putting themselves at risk to ensure the public can continue to access the food, medicines and essential items they need.

"With reduced public transport servicing the city many of those frontline staff are now having to drive in so we didn’t want them to lose out by also having to pay for parking.”
