ICONIC landmarks in Chester will be illuminated in a blue to show support for all NHS staff and key workers during the current coronavirus outbreak.

The city's Eastgate clock face, the Town Hall and the Amphitheatre will be illuminated in a blue light from today (Thursday, March 26) at 8pm until Monday, March 30.

The necessary work has been carried out by Cheshire West and Chester Council’s street lighting team.

Councillor Karen Shore, the council’s cabinet member for environment, said: “We really wanted to do something to show our appreciation for the hard work being done by all NHS staff and all key workers during the current coronavirus outbreak.

“The Eastgate clock is lit with LED technology, so it’s quite easy for our street lighting engineers to alter the colour. For the Town Hall and Amphitheatre it’s just a case of swapping lamps and adding blue filters to the front of the lighting units.”

The blue lighting has been arranged to support a national on-line campaign asking everyone to show their support for NHS staff at 8pm tonight.
