A Saltney man stole fragrances from a Chester store because he could not afford to pay for them.
At Chester Magistrates Court, Joseph William Thomas Canning, 32, of Victoria Road, pleaded guilty on Friday, March 20 to stealing one 100ml Armani perfume bottle, one Fenty Beauty pro filer and one set of Too Faced accessories, all from the Boots Foregate Street store.
The value of the stolen items amounted to £149 and the offence happened on November 19, 2019.
Prosecuting, Ayra Ali said security staff noticed Canning at 2.30pm stealing the three items by putting them into a crash helmet he was holding, before leaving without paying.
He had one previous theft matter from 2005.
Defending, Steve Coupe said the goods were recovered.
The court heard Canning had stolen the items on the day as he could not afford to pay for them.
He was a chef by trade and had been for the past four years.
Magistrates fined Canning £233, plus £85 in court costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
