MP Justin Madders has unveiled a newly-installed defibrillator at Coliseum Shopping Park.

The Ellesmere Port and Neston MP spoke of the importance of having the life-saving equipment on hand given the huge number of visitors to the popular retail and leisure complex.

The defibrillator can be found on the customer service suite building between JD Sports and Boots.

The Crown Estate, which is the owner and operator of Coliseum Shopping Park, has been working with LifeAID – a company set up by Mark and Kevin Dryburgh after a family member experienced a cardiac event – to install the equipment.

Both Kevin and North West Ambulance Service Paramedic Nick Blair were on hand to give Mr Madders a demonstration of how the defibrillator works.

Mr Madders said: "It’s great that The Crown Estate is doing its bit for the local community by installing this defibrillator at Coliseum Shopping Park.

"The Park gets a lot of visitors every year so having easy access to this equipment is really important for the community."

Richard Cripps, Asset Manager at The Crown Estate, added: "We have served the community here for many years so we’re pleased that we can give something back.

"The Crown Estate is rolling out defibrillators across all of its retail parks so we’re delighted Justin could come along to help promote this life-saving equipment at Coliseum."

Often occurring without prior warning, cardiac arrests can affect people of all ages and levels of fitness. Defibrillators give people in cardiac arrest the best possible chance of survival. Every minute it takes for the defibrillator to reach someone however, their chances of survival reduce by up to 10%. Having defibrillators in as many public places as possible can make the difference between life and death.
