A MAN due to appear before magistrates charged with stealing bottles of vodka from Morrisons in Chester did not come to court – as he said he was self-isolating.

John Barry, 50, of Wycliffe Street, Rock Ferry, was due to appear at Chester Magistrates Court on the afternoon of Monday, March 16.

He is charged with stealing three bottles of vodka to the value of £48 from Morrisons in Upton, Chester. The offence is alleged to have occurred on February 29.

But Barry had contacted the court to inform them he would not be attending as he was in self-isolation, having experienced symptoms consistent with that of coronavirus including a fever.

The court agreed to adjourn the case for three weeks and Barry has been listed to appear in court on April 6.

He remains on conditional bail, with the condition being not to enter the Morrisons Chester store.
