THREE North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) paramedics from Cheshire will feature on BBC Two’s Top Gear on Sunday night as part of a special emergency services episode.

Paramedics, Christopher Evans and Dave Stubbs and senior paramedic team leader, Steph Smith, were filmed in December representing the ambulance service as part of a ‘blues and twos challenge’ fighting it out in a series of driving contests in a bid to be crowned the winners against teams representing the fire and police.

Joining presenters Freddie Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness, Chris Harris and the legendary ‘stig’, the three car buffs spent the day at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey where the competition took place before a second day of filming in the studio.

The experienced clinicians are highly trained in emergency driving, accustomed to difficult conditions but this was a whole new challenge for them.

The winning team, announced during Sunday’s episode, will be presented with the coveted trophy and named ‘the quickest emergency service in the country’.

Mr Evans said: “We all had a fantastic experience. From start to finish, it was the best day ever. We had so much fun and the banter between the emergency services was brilliant, we never stopped smiling.

“Myself and Dave have been friends for years, both bonding over our love of motorsports and with Steph being a big car lover too, we were a brilliant team.

“We’ve had to keep it under wraps for a long time so it’s great to finally be able to tell people. My friends and colleagues can’t quite believe it.

“The three of us will all be together again on Sunday to watch the episode and it’ll be the first time we’re seeing it too.”

The episode will be aired on BBC Two on Sunday at 8pm.
