SANCTUARY Housing is offering green-fingered residents in Chester the opportunity to start growing their own fruit and vegetables.

The Growing Spaces initiative, run by Sanctuary, has seen former garage sites across Chester turned into sustainable urban community allotment sites.

The sites offer local residents of all ages an opportunity to grow their own produce, with support and training available to help them get started and develop their skills.

The Sanctuary Growing Spaces sites are located in Oxford Road, Lache; Linden Grove, Hoole; Queens Road, Vicars Cross and Weston Grove, Upton, and all sites currently have plots available for anyone interested in growing their own produce.

Ria Burns, Sanctuary’s neighbourhood partnership manager, said: “The Growing Spaces project encourages anyone from complete beginners to experienced growers to get involved and make use of these wonderful green spaces in our local neighbourhoods.

“There are lots of benefits to joining our growing community. It’s great exercise and a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and learn new skills. Whatever you’re interested in growing, from potatoes to parsley or carrots to coriander, we’d love to hear from you.”

Anyone interested in finding out more or applying for a plot at a Growing Spaces site can email growing.spaces@sanctuary-housing.co.uk or call 0800 131 3348 (0300 123 3511 from mobiles).

The Growing Spaces initiative is supported by Sanctuary’s Community Investment Fund, supporting projects which benefit Sanctuary residents and their local communities.
