IT was a glorious day for the opening of the new trim trail at Little Sutton Church of England Primary School when children from the school were able to test it out for the first time.

The trim trail is the result of many years of fundraising by the Little Sutton Primary School PTA, known as Friends of Little Sutton School (FOLSS).

FOLSS have held numerous fundraising events at the school and have also been successful in securing grants from homebuilder Redrow and the Ellesmere Port Round Table.

Installed by Creative Play and featuring various equipment for children to balance and climb, the trim trail has been located close to the playground and field at Little Sutton Primary School, with Bugs Wood forest school area beyond.

Chair of FOLSS Jenny Thomson said: “We’ve held summer fairs, Christmas fairs, non-uniform days, put on discos, and little by little we’ve been able to raise the money we needed to install the trim trail.

"We are thankful to Redrow for their £2,000 contribution and the Ellesmere Port Round Table for their £200 donation, plus all of the local businesses in Little Sutton who have contributed to our events by donating prizes.

“Most of all we would like to thank our parents for their support over the years in raising the money to install the trim trail. This is the result of a lot of hard work by a lot of people and we hope our children will get many years of enjoyment from the trim trail.”

The first group able to experience the trim trail were the Year 2 pupils in Cherry class, accompanied by their teacher and PE co-ordinator Mr Bowness, who said: “The children have been so excited watching the trim trail go up and eager to get outside and have a go.

"We’re lucky that we have a really generous outside area at Little Sutton with a massive field for football, forest area and now the trim trail too.

“I’m all for any initiative that encourages our children to have fun whilst keeping fit. As a school, we achieved the Silver School Games Mark in 2019 and we have Year 6 Sports Leaders who help our pupils to stay active at play time.

"The trim trail is another way for our pupils to be more active on a regular basis. We’ve set up a rota so that all of our pupils have the opportunity to get out and try out the equipment safely.”

Little Sutton C of E Primary School is holding a community coffee morning on March 2, 10-11am, at the school.
