FUN-SEEKERS are invited to have a ball with plenty of French flair next month.

The ‘Fourth Grand Bal de Chester' will be welcoming dance lovers from across the region for an afternoon of traditional French and Breton dance workshops followed by an evening dance with live music from acclaimed band, Kantref.

It will take place on Saturday, March 14 in Hoole at All Saints Church.

The workshops start at 2pm and will cover couple and Breton dancing, plus there is a workshop especially for musicians who fancy learning to play French traditional dance music with its unique melodies.

The evening dance starts at 7.30pm and will feature the driving music of French Dance band Kantref with their eclectic mix of fiddles, accordion, guitar, mandolin and bass.

Organiser Helen Armstrong said: “The workshops and Bal will appeal to complete beginners and improvers alike.

“Traditional French music and dance has gained huge popularity in the UK. Its driving rhythms and exotic melodies make it totally irresistible to dance to. It's also very easy to pick up!”

Helen runs a very popular monthly French Dance and music session in Chester, under the name of Rondez Vous.

She added: “Whether you love English Ceilidhs and want to branch out, are already hooked on French Dance or just enjoy bopping to good music, this is a great chance to try something different."
