AFTERNOON TEA at The Chester Grosvenor Hotel has been ranked as one of the finest such experiences across the nation, according to a campaign by Age Co.

Age Co aims to help older people to live independently and enjoy financial security, and as part of their latest campaign, ‘The Great British Guide to Afternoon Tea’, the company have named Chester’s prestigious hotel as one of the best to enjoy the much-loved tradition.

The Chester Grosvenor Hotel was among 20 different locations across the UK to be chosen, with three in Scotland, two in Wales, one in Northern Ireland, and 14 in England.

Both locals and tourists alike have been stepping through the hotel’s doors since 1882 to enjoy what has been named by many as Chester’s finest afternoon tea.

From freshly baked scones to homemade fresh pastries and fancies, The Chester Grosvenor Hotel provides the perfect backdrop to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea, whether that is for a special occasion or simply a mid-week treat.

Guests can choose from one of three different experiences – a ‘Traditional Afternoon Tea’ or ‘Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea’ both of which cost £33.50 per person, or an upgraded ‘Indulgent Champagne’ option which will set you back £47.50.

A recent survey from Age Co as part of their campaign also found that 80 per cent of tea drinkers stir their drink in a circular motion.

But the afternoon tea expert, Eileen Donaghey, explains that when it comes to making the perfect brew, “The spoon should not be clanked against the sides or stirred in a circular motion.

“Instead, it should gently repeatedly move backwards from a 12 o’clock to a 6 o’clock position in order and the spoon replaced behind the teacup when finished stirring”.

In the same survey, Age Co also found that 64 per cent of people opt to apply jam first to their scones before then adding cream.
