A SUPER BOWL fundraiser helped the Chester Romans American football team to raise hundreds of pounds for new equipment ahead of their new season.

The Romans held the evening of entertainment, which saw a number of their players attend, at Hickory’s Smokehouse on Sunday (February 2) - the night of the 2020 Super Bowl.

While it was the Kansas City Chiefs who were crowned as the NFL champions after their 31-20 win over the San Francisco 49ers, the Chester Romans were also winners as they raised nearly five hundred pounds to invest into new equipment.

After the event, Chester Romans’ General Manager, Geraint Griffiths, said: “it was an excellent night at Hickory’s with a sell-out crowd and hundreds of people attending.

“About 20 of our players went down to meet and greet the fans before we spoke about the team and held a fantastic raffle.

“We managed to get hold of an official Super Bowl match programme which was our main raffle prize, and that went down so well, especially with Lisa Edwards who was lucky enough to win it.

“We ended up £460 better off by the end of the night, which is far more than we imagined, and now we have been able to invest that money into some new equipment, including four new helmets.”

The Chester Romans return to competitive American football action in April when they visit the Yorkshire Rams to kick off their latest campaign in the NFC 1 South division.
