COUNCIL tax payers are being urged to sign up to a new scheme where there bill will be sent digitally - helping to save on paper and postage.

Residents will be able to keep track of their finances and play their part to help tackle the climate emergency.

Council tax payers can sign up for a digital bill from Cheshire West and Chester Council, receiving it by email as soon as it is available and saving paper and postage.

Councillor Carol Gahan, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s cabinet member for finance and legal, said: “We’ve offered an electronic billing service in the past but have made improvements this year following customer feedback.

“The new system is much more user-friendly and being able to offer a digital bill helps residents to reduce their own carbon footprint as well as helping us to reduce ours as an organisation.

“The council has pledged to help the borough become carbon neutral before 2045 and all of these efforts add up.”

Residents who sign up for a digital council tax bill can access it at any time, download it, save it or print it if a paper copy is needed.

The council also offers an online self-service portal that allows residents to access their council tax account and set up or amend Direct Debits, report a change of address, apply for a council tax discount or view payments.
