A RETAILER has stepped in to save a town's only post office.

The Post Office has agreed to move its Saltney Post Office to McColl's Retail Group.

The current branch is managed by a temporary operator which is closing on Thursday, February 6 at 6pm,

But the new branch will open at McColl's on February 7 - and will be open seven days a week between 6am and 10pm.

This will offer 112 hours of Post Office service every week - more than double the current opening hours, including all-day Sunday and Saturday afternoon.

The branch will also open significantly earlier and it will close much later every day.

"As a convenience store operator we are always looking for ways to make life easier for our customers and the additional Post Office services at both branches will be available for the full opening hours of the stores in order to provide an excellent service for the local communities.”

The new location is 40 metres from the current Saltney Post Office and can be found at 1 Chester Street, Saltney, Chester, CH4 8BL.
