CHILDREN at a Chester primary are celebrating becoming a Woodland Trust Green Tree School.

Hoole Church of England Primary School received the official plaque this week, meaning the school joins the network of 12,000 schools taking action to help the environment in conjunction with the Woodland Trust Green Tree scheme.

The Green Tree initiative encourages outdoor learning and inspires people to discover trees, wildlife, and the natural world.

Through the award, children can take part in fun, practical projects while helping the environment and improving the school grounds.

Sarah Jones, Forest School leader at the school, said: "Pupils have been highly engaged by our programme of Forest School learning since September.

"Our Forest School base has enabled pupils of all ages to develop a range of academic and social skills, including working collaboratively within a team and being resourceful.

"We are delighted to be involved in the Green Tree Scheme which perfectly supports the work we are doing to develop our school garden and embed learning outside the classroom in our rich outdoor environment."

Pupils at the school are already planning future activities which include supporting the project to develop Alexandra Park over the coming term as well as participating in an RSPB-sponsored initiative.
