A CHESHIRE motor racing circuit has been undergoing the first phase in a series of improvements planned this year.

The Oulton Park track in Little Budworth, Tarporley, is having a number of tweaks made to improve competitors' safety, as well as off-track facility improvements.

On-track alterations include the installation of new concrete run-off at Old Hall and Lodge, to improve safety for both cars and motorcycles.

Other tweaks to the circuit include extensive barrier renewal and improvements at Old Hall, Clay Hill, Shell and Druids, as well as kerb upgrades at Cascades, Knickerbrook and Lodge.

Away from the track itself, the venue has undergone some off-circuit resurfacing, whilst the paddock toilet facilities have been upgraded.

In the longer term, the circuit will also begin work later this season on a new large campsite toilet and shower facility, with an evening entertainment area.

Oulton Park circuit manager Jon Rush said: "I'm delighted that we've been able to begin this year with a number of positive changes to the venue.

"The run-off works at Old Hall and Lodge should decrease the number of cars we see spinning into the barriers at those locations, and will be an especially noticeable improvement for motorcycle riders.

"Aside from that, we've undertaken a number of other projects and we're also beginning to look further ahead with major improvements to the campsite for campers."

Oulton Park is part of the MotorSport Vision series of racetracks, which has seen a number of facility improvements at other UK circuits such as Brands Hatch and Donington Park.
