A GROUP of Deeside friends will take on the challenge of walking 77 miles in 48 hours for charity.

Pete Dodd, Crawford Hall, Steve Chesworth, Gavin Evans and Mike Hodson will walk from Holyhead to their home town of Shotton - and are aiming to raise £5000 in the process.

The money is being raised for two charities; The Not Forgotten Association - tackling loneliness within the armed forces community, and Prostate Cancer UK.

The group will take on the challenge on January 30 - and aims to arrive at Hendys Pub (Castle Inn) in Shotton by 12pm on February 1.

Pete said of the chosen charities: “Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer found in males in the UK - so it needs as much funding as possible.

"The Not Forgotten Association is maybe not a main stream charity but it helps ex and current servicemen and women and the funding reaches the people who need it most."

Crawford, the brainchild of the challenge, said: "I just wanted to do something for charity and originally thought about doing Dry January - but in the end decided that I would try and get a bit fitter so a long walk was the answer.

"The route seemed like a tough challenge and has brought a good team together."
