A CHESTER chippy in contention to be crowned the finest fish and chip shop in the UK will be giving out free meals tomorrow (Friday, January 17).

Free fish and chips will be on offer to the first 20 customers at Fish and Chips @ Weston Grove in Upton, as the restaurant gets ready to compete for top honours in the 2020 National Fish and Chip Awards next week.

All 10 finalists will be participating in the offer, with the other nine as far afield as Aberdeenshire, Devon and County Tyrone, as a thank you to customers for their continued support.

Each of the 10 are battling to be crowned the winner of the flagship Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award.

Marcus Coleman, chief executive at Seafish, the organisation that runs the National Fish & Chip Awards, said: “With just under one week to go, we’re eagerly awaiting to find out who will be crowned the best fish and chip shop in the UK for 2020.

"We love celebrating great fish and chips, and tomorrow we want to celebrate the consumers who support the industry by buying their fish supper every week.

“Being shortlisted as a finalist for the flagship award is a phenomenal achievement and we hope people will head along on Friday to cheer on their local shop and enjoy some free fish and chips!

"Everyone in the final truly deserves their spot and we wish them all the best of luck next week.”

The winner of the Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award will be announced at The National Fish & Chip Awards’ 32nd anniversary awards ceremony in London on January 23.
