IT'S a new term and there are new faces at the top for three primary schools in the Chester and Ellesmere Port areas.

Conrad North joins Upton Heath Church of England Primary School as principal while Zoe Carciero takes on the role of executive principal of Clutton Church of England Primary School and Little Sutton Church of England Primary School.

Upton Heath, Clutton and Little Sutton Church of England Primary Schools are all part of The Samara Trust, a charity-based multi-academy trust formed in March 2019.

Headteacher of Upton Heath Paula Conlin became CEO of The Samara Trust on its formation, with Wendy O’Leary-Davies taking on the interim principal role. Mrs O’Leary-Davies will remain at Upton Heath as vice principal.

Mr North is an experienced headteacher who has worked at schools across Cheshire, Merseyside, Berkshire and Greater Manchester, including as principal of Werneth Primary School in Oldham for the past three years.

Mr North is looking forward to returning to his educational roots in Cheshire.

He said: “My very first school was St Bridget’s C of E Primary School in West Kirby, whilst my first headship was at Stanney Grange Primary School in Ellesmere Port. I also spent eight years as headteacher of J H Godwin in Blacon.

"I know Chester and its resources well, having lived in both Hoole and Boughton. Upton Heath is an exciting place of learning, filled with motivated children and staff.

"Excellence is part and parcel of the mission at Upton Heath, and the ethos of learning together and principles of belief, resilience and respect are ones that I very much ascribe to.”

Mr North, whose career highlights include improvements to educational facilities for children and government recognition for school improvement, is involved in the primary leadership programme and has worked as a national school improvement partner with schools in Birmingham.

He added: “What I will bring to Upton Heath is my experience and understanding of schools. I’m looking forward to working with the children, parents, staff and the community, as well as with colleagues across the The Samara Trust."

Like Mr North, Mrs Carciero also has experience of working with schools that are part of multi-academy trusts, having spent a number of years working as headteacher of Field Court C of E Infant Academy in Gloucester, part of the Diocese Academy Trust.

Mrs Carciero said: “I have taught in a number of schools in North Wales and in Gloucestershire.

"I worked as a headteacher in a church school for three years. Field Court was a fun place to learn and grow and it was a privilege to be part of the children’s learning journeys.

“To Little Sutton C of E Primary and Clutton C of E Primary, I will bring my enthusiasm and passion for learning and a drive to continue to improve standards for children in our local communities.

"With both schools being part of The Samara Trust, this will increase opportunities for children and staff to work together and celebrate our successes.”
