A WREXHAM woman has slammed the council after her recycling was been left to pile up for weeks.

Dawn Meredyk, from Acrefair, says Wrexham Council has failed to collect her recycling for nearly three weeks.

And Miss Meredyk, a mum of five all living in the house, says she has had numerous experiences of this in the past.

She said: "I've had so many issues with this - the outside of the house looks like a recycling tip now.

"With seven of us in the house, and the fact we had loads of guests come round for New Year's Eve - the amount of waste is huge."

Wrexham Council collects recycling in Acrefair every Monday - but had failed to collect from Miss Meredyk's property on Maple Drive for nearly three weeks.

And to make matters worse, she says binmen collected waste from some properties on Friday having not done so the pervious Monday - but still not from her's.

"With the amount of food-waste that's outside the house now, the chances of getting rats and the like are so high," Miss Meredyk added.

"Thankfully we have cats who act as one type of pest control, but we've had issues with rats in the past and this is only going to attract more.

"The council is happy to take my rent off me but won't even come and collect my bins - it's a disgrace."

A spokesman for Wrexham Council said: “Demand on our waste recycling and waste collection services always increases over the Christmas period, and we appreciate the frustrations of those residents who have not received their usual collections – our crews have made efforts to make return collections to any areas legitimately missed and have carried out later shifts in order to ensure all waste is collected.

“We note that we continue to encounter access issues in some areas, and would remind residents to please keep routes as clear as possible to allow crews to carry out their work.

“Normal service and regular collection days will resume from next week – we would advise residents to please check their collection calendars for further details.”
