A WREXHAM company’s staff gave up their Christmas holiday to help clean up the local area.

Concrete-suppliers Eco-Readymix paid 16 staff to work an extra day to take to the streets of Ruabon and clear up the untidy entrance to the village.

For many years local residents have complained to the council about the over-grown and untidy looking dual carriageway that is long overdue a tidy up.

The Leader:

The staff of the Rhostyllen-based company began the day with a team health and safety talk and risk assessment then hit the streets at 8am with two teams on opposite sides of the dual carriageway.

Working in a 20 metre safe zone between a road sweeper, two mixer trucks and two machines with bucket’s to hold the waste, the team began the back breaking task of removing over 15 tonnes of built up leaves, mud, weeds and litter.

Fully equipped in high visibility clothes and festive Santa costumes the team said it generated amazing community spirit and had numerous members of the public send in messages of thanks and support - with one even dropping off doughnuts to spur them on.

The Leader:

Company director Georgi Billington said: “It’s easy to expect the local council to tackle everything that’s needs to be done across the county but with limited funds its not all possible so we wanted to take the opportunity to offer our help and try encouraging other businesses and members to the public to help in whatever way they can, large or small.

“If we all help to keep our local community clean and tidy it makes for a nicer place for everyone.”
