A VILLAGE community has rallied after their cricket club fell victim to a vile vandalism attack.

The clubhouse at Christleton Cricket Club, Little Heath, was broken unto overnight on Sunday (December 29).

The "mindless" offenders caused significant damage, including destroying lifesaving defibrillator equipment.

They also set off fire extinguishers and scrawled offensive messages, including racial slurs.

A member of the club posted on Facebook: "I am totally lost for words!

"If anyone knows anything please contact the police immediately.

"These mindless individuals have wrecked the defibrillator, WiFi, TV, PA system and set off the fire extinguishers."

However, in the wake of the incident, the community has rallied to repair and tidy up the clubhouse.

The club posted: "Thank you everyone for their support today and all those that helped or offered to help clean up. 

"The community and the village are stronger than these individuals. 

"We will not let them destroy our spirit."

Police are appealing for information.

A spokesman said: "Offenders have caused extensive damage to the club and much distress to the local community.

"Anyone with information relating to burglary at Christleton Cricket Club, which occurred overnight Sunday 29/12, please call 101 quoting IML600400.

A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to purchase a new defibrillator and keep the club going. It has raised more than £1,000.
